Frequently asked questions

What people ask us before hiring a contractor

The questions clients, operators and property managers ask before entrusting us with a job. If yours isn't here, give us a call.

→ Do you work in my Paris arrondissement?

Answer
Yes. We work in Paris, from the 1st to the 20th arrondissement — Paris 11th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th and all the others. Our registered office is in Paris 12th, and we work throughout Île-de-France: Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Essonne, Yvelines, Val-d'Oise and Seine-et-Marne. See the areas we cover →

→ Who actually works on the site?

Answer
The TOAM ELEC team: power installation electricians used to technical projects — high-end homes, apartment buildings, commercial premises and hotels. A dedicated contact assesses the job, prices it and follows the work on site, under the responsibility of management. The electrical package is never passed down a chain of subcontractors, and you keep the same contact from the first call to handover.

→ How do you work on premises that stay open?

Answer
It's ground we know well. Phased work — floor by floor, room by room — outside operating hours when the business requires it, with power restored at the end of every shift. Protection, access routes and debris removal are organised so the premises stay presentable and operational throughout the works.

→ What do you hand over at completion?

Answer
A file, not just an installation. Up-to-date single-line diagram, labelling of every outgoing circuit, layout plans, manuals and references of the equipment installed, updated existing plans — right up to switchboard diagrams. The file is provided in the format required by the property manager, landlord, operator or inspection body. It lets the next contractor pick up the installation without starting from scratch.

→ How do you work with an inspection body?

Answer
We build its requirements in from the start rather than discovering them in the report. Compliance points identified at the technical visit, documentation produced as we go, presence on site during the inspector's visit if you wish, and remarks cleared within the agreed time. An installation inspected twice always costs more than one documented properly the first time.

→ How does a quote request work?

Answer
You describe your needs online or by phone, with photos if you have them. We then arrange a technical visit: existing installation, building constraints, compliance points. You then receive an itemised quote — labour, materials, quantities — within 48 h. The survey and technical visit are free of charge. Once the quote is signed, the price is fixed for the work described: any additional work is submitted to you and approved in writing before it is carried out.

→ How do you keep to the deadlines you give?

Answer
By only promising what the schedule allows. A human-sized company has no chain of command: whoever commits to a date is the one who keeps it. We aim to reply to every request within 48 h, and if we can't fit your timeframe we tell you straight away rather than keep you waiting. Supplies ordered ahead and a storage depot: so that no job is held up for lack of a part.

→ What insurance covers your work?

Answer
Professional liability insurance and 10-year warranty insurance with AXERIA IARD, ARTIBAG policy. The certificate — insured activities, limits and territorial scope — is given to you before work starts, without you having to ask. It is part of the file sent to every business client, together with the Kbis extract, bank details and URSSAF compliance certificate.

→ Do you respond to tenders and consultations?

Answer
Yes, and our tender file is ready: company presentation, up-to-date Kbis, bank details, URSSAF certificate, insurance certificate. We draw up a site safety plan (PPSPS) and take part in the prevention plan for any work on operating premises. Quotes are provided in the required format — breakdown by package, schedule of rates or response to the specification — and we know how to read a tender file before pricing.

→ In a building open to the public, what do you handle?

Answer
Power distribution, panels and switchboards, general and ambient lighting, emergency lighting — self-contained units, escape route and exit signage — and power supplies for safety equipment. Fire detection is handled by a specialist company: we provide the cabling and power supplies and coordinate with them. Work is scheduled outside opening hours.

→ In an existing building, how far do you need to bring things up to code?

Answer
The French standard NF C 15-100 applies to new installations and full renovations; it is not retroactive for existing installations. In practice, three points come up most often during an inspection, a sale or a check: 30 mA residual current protection, effective earthing with equipotential bonding, and the condition of the consumer unit. We tell you what is really necessary and what isn't — even when that lowers the quote.

→ What do you entrust to partners, and why?

Answer
Fire detection, to a specialist company. Design and commissioning of CCTV, alarms and access control, to a partner whose trade it is — we handle cabling, power supplies and integration. When a job goes beyond electrics, a network of masons, painters and plumbers allows a coordinated approach. You keep one TOAM ELEC contact, and everyone stays within their expertise.

→ How do you guarantee confidentiality?

Answer
Private villas, second homes, head offices, occupied hotel rooms: what happens on site stays on site. No photograph, address or client name is published or shared without prior written consent. A confidentiality agreement can be signed before the survey, and our partners are bound by the same terms.

Before you call us

Your problem, explained simply

What it probably means, and what to do while you wait for us.

→ The breaker keeps tripping

Likely cause
Overloaded circuit or an appliance leaking to earth.
What to do
Unplug the appliances on that circuit, then reset. If it trips again, the fault needs to be traced.

→ A socket gets hot or crackles

Likely cause
Loose or corroded connection. It is the first sign of a fire risk.
What to do
Switch the circuit off at the consumer unit and stop using the socket until we come.

→ Old porcelain fuse box

Likely cause
An old installation, often without a 30 mA RCD: it no longer meets current requirements.
What to do
Plan to replace the consumer unit, especially before letting or renovating.

→ Part of the home has no power

Likely cause
A circuit breaker has tripped or a connection has come loose in a junction box.
What to do
Don't power the area with extension leads: have the circuit checked.
